Meet the Staff
Our goal for patients is to have a comfortable, happy, and safe experience at our office. Our staff prides itself on being professional and courteous. The surgical staff at the office of Cara Overbeck, DDS are highly experienced Oral and Maxillofacial surgical assistants who are trained in outpatient surgical care, assisting with Intravenous (IV) sedation or outpatient general anesthesia as well as all aspects of infection control in our state-of-the-art office setting. Patients are continuously monitored during and after surgery, and all assistants are CPR certified.
Our exceptional administrative staff has years of experience in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is well-versed in insurance and financial policies as they relate to surgical treatment. Renee – Practice Administrator
Renee has been our practice administrator since 1998. She and her husband have raised two boys and now have four grandchildren. Renee loves going on hikes in our local parks, going to the zoo, and playing with her grandchildren when she is not working.
Renee has over 30 years experience in healthcare and her previous experience in managing a medical practice prepared her well for providing for our patients’ needs. She keeps the practice running smoothly for our patients and our staff. Her duties include the practice’s finances, staffing, internet marketing, and maintaining our technology. Her primary focus is always on our patient’s needs and providing a positive experience in our office.
Sofia – Treatment Coordinator
Sofia is a DANB Certified Dental Assistant. She received her dental assistant and expanded duties training at Charlotte Technical Center. Upon graduation in 2010 she joined Dr. Overbeck’s practice. Sofia grew up in sunny California where she met the love of her life. They have two wonderful boys and a dog named Milo. Sofia spends her free time at her son’s sports practices and games, as well as swimming, biking, canoeing, camping and relaxing at the beach.
Sofia’s responsibilities include assisting for all types of procedures and assisting with monitoring for I.V. anesthesia patients. She prepares the surgical suites and instrumentation and performs sterilization procedures. She coordinates care with other dental and medical offices to ensure excellent communication and care for her patients. She excels at helping patients relax during their consultation and surgeries and especially enjoys working with children.
Erin – Treatment Coordinator
Erin is married with one teenage son who keeps her young! She also has 3 four legged children, including an American Staffordshire Terrier and two cats. During her leisure time, Erin enjoys spending quality time with family and close friends. She is also enrolled in college working toward her Associate’s Degree. Erin has worked with Dr. Overbeck since graduating as a certified expanded functions Dental Assistant over 10 years ago. In addition to assisting during clinical procedures, Erin reviews patients’ medical and dental history, takes x-rays, and CT scans, takes dental impressions and explains patients’ treatment plans. She assists in the monitoring of patients during I.V. anesthesia. Erin is also responsible for the Inventory and ordering of surgical supplies and the maintenance of all surgical equipment. Erin’s genuine care and concern for her patients is easily evident.
Mary – Treatment Coordinator
Mary started her career in dentistry after being offered a position by her own dentist! She furthered her education at Florida State University, obtaining a certificate in Dental Assisting with Expanded Duty Function. Mary was born and raised in Rochester, New York. She and her husband of 35 years moved to Punta Gorda in 1973. They are blessed with a son and daughter and are fortunate to have them living nearby. They are proud to be loyal fans of the Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles in Estero. Mary’s duties include educating patients about their treatment options and procedures, preparing them for their procedures, reviewing medical and dental histories, assisting during the procedure, and reviewing postoperative instructions. Mary’s easygoing personality and infectious laugh make patients comfortable and at ease from their initial consultation through their surgical procedure.
Jennifer – Financial Coordinator
Jenn moved here from New Jersey, where she worked for an oral surgery practice for over 12 years, in April 2021. She and her husband have been happily married for 21 plus years. They are very active, love adventures and sightseeing, and enjoy traveling back to New Jersey to see their two grandchildren.
Jenn is the person you see before you leave the office. She will answer any financial questions you may have and schedule your future appointments.
Stacy – Patient Registration Coordinator
Stacy joined our practice in 2021 after retiring from New Jersey along with her husband of 3 years. She began her dental career in New Jersey and worked for an orthodontist for 25 years. She has two grown sons and a granddaughter still living in New Jersey. Stacy loves to garden, travel, and fish for largemouth bass from her backyard; as well as spending time with family and friends.
Stacy is responsible for entering all medical histories and medication lists into the patient’s electronic medical record. She is the first smiling face you see when entering our office.
Susan – Treatment Coordinator
Susan is a DANB Certified Dental Assistant. She completed her Dental Assistant Expanded Duties training at Bates Technical College in Tacoma, Washington in May 1995. Upon graduation she immediately relocated from the “Rainy State” to Venice in the “Sunshine State.” Susan met Dr. Overbeck in 2001 when she worked for a general dentist who worked closely with Dr. Overbeck for her exceptional surgical skill and shared comprehensive and ethical dental practice philosophy. With 25 years of general dental assisting experience, when the dentist she worked for retired, Susan jumped at the opportunity to further her dental experience and joined our surgical team in the fall of 2021.
Susan’s responsibilities include explanation and facilitation of patient’s treatment at the initial consult or surgical visit. She is responsible for assisting during various procedures, such as placing dental implants. She also prepares the surgical suites, monitors patients during I.V. sedation, sterilizes instruments, and enters treatment notes in patients’ electronic records.
Susan is a single mom to her teenage son, Kole and daughter, Hannah, and their yellow lab, Harper. Outside of work, she focuses her time on her children’s activities and experiences. They have enjoyed visits “home to Washington” to see family.
Susan loves working with people of all ages. She approaches patient care with a down-to-earth and light-hearted humor, hoping to create a genuinely relaxed and positive experience for our patients.
Pat – Appointment Coordinator
Pat is the newest member of our awesome team, joining the practice in March 2022. She came aboard after working sixteen years with a local oral surgeon who recently retired. Her oral surgery experience began in Philadelphia where she held both clinical and business positions and she was part of a practice there for many years before moving to Florida.
Pat has four grown children and she cherishes their time together, as they all live out of state. She enjoys gardening, walking and biking, but her favorite is spending time relaxing on the beach.
Pat is the first person on the phone to schedule all initial and subsequent appointments. She is responsible for making sure we have x-rays, referrals, and any other pertinent information needed for each patient appointment. Pat’s preparation ensures that each patient has a good experience and that each visit goes smoothly.
Cheryl (aka Pinky) – Implant Coordinator
Pinky graduated from dental assisting school more than 40 years ago and she started her dental career in general dentistry but switched to oral surgery 30 years ago. She has extensive implant, front desk, and insurance experience and joined our practice in August of 2021.
Originally from the south Chicago suburbs, she and her husband relocated to the sunny state of Florida over 6 years ago. Pinky is married to her high school sweetheart whom she has known since she was 13 years old. She has two grown sons, one living in Colorado with his wife and the other in Michigan. She also has one granddaughter and two feline fur babies, Harley and Callie. Pinky is very involved in her home church and spends a lot of time volunteering and helping others. She loves going to the beach, scuba diving, wine tasting, riding on the back of her husband’s Harley and spending time with friends and family.
Besides assisting for all types of surgical procedures, Pinky’s responsibilities include educating patients on the benefits of implants. She works closely with Dr. Overbeck during initial consultations to make sure all questions are answered and each patient is comfortable with the treatment plan presented. Pinky spends quality time tracking and coordinating treatment plans to make sure each patient receives the best care possible. She orders all implants, tracks surgical guides and makes sure that all implant surgical pieces are reserved and in order for your implant surgery.
Pinky has a big heart, is very compassionate about her patients’ comfort, and you can’t miss her in the office – she is the only one sporting pink hair!
